Looks like I missed the parade..

Guess while I was busy not coming into SL there was a little flag making contest for Zindra. First, I want to congratulate the winner: Tasty Tiramisu (who won $10,000L in prizes for her great and very sexy flag)

Anyway, rather than throw away the jpeg, I thought I'd share what my entry WOULD have been, had I been paying attention to when the deadline was.

JC's Second Life Sweepstakes* (Improved)

Welcome to the 27nd week of the renamed, improved and easiest contest anywhere.. Follow the blog and get a chance to win Lindens. As we reach certain "followership" levels I up the prize amount to something more special. And your odds of winning are one in however many people are following the blog. 37 people are following the blog.. so you have a one in 37 chance of winning!

The latest improvement involves *doubling the prize amount. I've had so much fun giving out $500L prizes I've decided to keep it at that level, except for those "special" times, when I'll increase it substantially. (I finally figured out everything I was saving by not coming in world, and not throwing parties I could give away as contest prizes.) (to date $7650L in prizes has been given out for this contest!) The next big prize comes in when we reach 40 followers, so invite your friends to follow the blog!

(Side note: if you have a SL business and want to cosponsor this sweepstakes contest and get promoted each week in this blog - contact me.)

To be considered entered all ya gotta do is publicly follow the blog. So click on that button to the right. You can still read the blog using your other blog reading tools, (google reader, whatever) but with you as a "follower" *I'll* get a sense of who is reading the blog (even if you aren't reading it all that attentively. (of course, a comment every now and then would be nice too.)

Ok.. drum roll please..

Using my random number generator and the list #24 Eddi Haskell is the lucky winner of this week's contest. (For future reference, If I can't find you or you don't make yourself known to me in a given week, the prize doubles for the next weeks contest.)

That should about do it this week.

JC

*reminder* Those of you that follow this blog using Google Reader, Yahoo Reader, etc. from the various feeds.. you don't show up in the Blogger Follow for me to include you in the contest.

SPECIAL THINGS:

WOODSTOCK IN SL

http://slurl.com/secondlife/REVA%20Blue%20Nile/92/64/641

Woodstock 40 opens on Friday, August 14 in Second life and lasts for four days.

"The four days will match the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, the most important music festival of all times.

Over 21 hours of music will be played. Original recordings will be played on a sim that has been built to look like the original site in New York in 1969. A live band will be on stage playing the music to give virtual replication of the original concert.

What is so interesting about this is that 296 Songs have been identified at the original four day Woodstock Festival. The founder of SL Woodstock, prominent DJ and Blue Region owner Aristippus Larsson has assembled over 165 recordings of live Woodstock performance, some of which were released this year. Another 100 songs were commercially available over the past 40 years. Aris has spent years assembling what is the most comprehensive assembly of original Woodstock music available anywhere. As far as we know, a replication event like this has never been attempted in real life, since some of the original music has just recently been released.

Playlists for each day will be given by a greeter to each person who arrives for Woodstock at 40. These will include the name of each song, where it is Live from the original Woodstock, live from other venues, or studio recording. A note will tell people songs are available as downloads from online and other sources.

Collections will be taken at the event to benefit www.breadandjams.org, a real life Homeless Shelter in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

Here are the times for the event.

August 14 Friday: 7 to 10 p.m.
August 15 Saturday: 1 to 10 p.m.
August 16 Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
August 17 Monday 7 to 10 pm

Not-so-secret Bday party last night..

Was a great party thrown together for JakeC Hotshot's Bday last night. Thought I'd post a couple pictures of the great looking "Thunderdome" set built by Regi Yifu. When the collapse of civilization as we know it comes I think he'll make a great interior decorator. (Def better than whoever does those "hello kitty" stores.)

Are you in Second Life to stay..

Cristopher Lefavre has a great blog post about RL.. ("dangerous experiment continues") thought I'd point this your way.

Also in it he references Emerald Wynn's excellent blog and a question posted therein: "Are you in Second Life to stay, meaning, now that you're here do you think it'll always be a part of your life?" Go ahead, give her blog a read and post to her comments, or if you have a blog, post. (or post in my comments)

As for me, with a qualification, I think Second Life will probably always be a part of my life. The quality of the experience, and nature of my participation in it will vary no doubt. The quantity definitely varies. (for example, I've been spending more time in my real life and less time inworld lately.)

Whether a serious conversation, or a fleeting flirtation, the people I've met and talked with are ultimately the biggest draw for me. I suppose I could, (and I do) carry on some of the same relationships through other social media (twitter, plurk, facebook, myspace, skype, yahoo, slprofiles, etc. etc. etc.) there's something about the 3-D space that enriches the conversations.

One thing is the "social environment" SL isn't just a one-2-one conversation tool, like email, ims, or the telephone. Its also a collective space. Like a dinner party or group get together. The ability to talk among each other in 3-D chat spreads a sense of belonging rather than just logged in.

And while I think meeting people in the flesh is a lot more fun, there are hassles and costs involved that make SL a attractive alternative. Transportation, Parking, and the rest of the costs of going out. (I can see how corporate meetings done in virtual worlds would be worthwhile.)

I must also admit, the ability to reconfigure and explore who *I* am is enhanced far more in the 3-D space than in those other environments. The ability to control the fullness of ones personal expression, ones thoughts, movements, and physical presentation doesn't exist to the same degree ANYWHERE else. (No matter how many laps I do at the pool.)

The qualification: If everyone starts migrating to some new "great thing" I'm likely to follow along. But otherwise I think I'll always have one foot in Second Life.

The age old question.. answered..

(either way, music on or off)

The age old question, why did I cross the road.. to get at the sex furniture.

The Museum of Sex Furniture had a great grand opening. Adric Antfarm produced this funny video to commemorate the experience.

JC's Second Life Sweepstakes*

I got tired of that damn long name I'd given this weekly contest. "Blog Follower Contest" I mean, how awkward is that? So, after thinking about it for 5 minutes I came up with this one*. Tell me if you like it.
